Can practitioners of the Keto diet still keep ghee in their lives? Are they doomed to give up its signature nutty flavoring?

Can practitioners of the keto diet still keep ghee in their lives? Are they doomed to give up its signature nutty flavoring?

The Short Answer:

Yes, ghee is allowed on the Keto diet.

The Long Answer:

Not only is ghee allowed for those following a ketogenic diet, it’s actually preferable over butter (Make sure you check out how ghee and butter are different). A tablespoon of ghee contains 14 grams of fat, whereas butter contains only 12. Ghee contains almost no traces of lactose, which aids in digestion, and more short and medium chain fatty acids, vitamins and conjugated linoleic acid. This aids in fat loss.

Ghee also works well in coffee. A typical Keto practitioner is advised to put butter in their coffee, but ghee works just as good, if not better. With ghee, you don’t get that frothy cappuccino-like consistency that butter creates in your morning java.

What is Keto?

The Ketogenic Diet, or Keto, is a low carb, high fat diet which helps you lose weight by forcing the body into a state of ketosis. On the Keto diet, users force the body to shed pounds by feeding on fat broken down in the liver, rather than carbohydrates and glucose.

When we eat a lot of carbohydrates, the body produces both insulin and glucose. The body feeds on the glucose to produce energy and stores fat, rather than burning it. With keto, you can lose weight, improve your overall health and enrich yourself in both body and mind.
