We know that carbohydrates are the enemy of a ketogenic diet. Does that mean all grains like farro are forbidden?

We know that carbohydrates are the enemy of a ketogenic diet. Does that mean all grains like farro are forbidden?

The Short Answer:

No, Farro is not allowed on the Keto diet.

The Long Answer:

Farro is not only not allowed on the keto diet but it’s one of the worst foods you could possibly have if you’re trying to live a low carb high fat lifestyle.

Keto is all about keeping the fat high and the carbs low. That’s the recipe for ketosis which is the basic core of the keto diet.

Farro is a member of the grain family, which is usually best to avoid when you’re trying to be keto. These grains are dried out and often cooked in water. It can be used in salads, soups, or just eaten plain.

Now, make no mistake about this. I am not saying that farro is bad for you. It’s just horrible for keto.

Why, you ask? Carbs.

Typically you want to keep your carbohydrates down to about 5% of your daily caloric intake when following a keto lifestyle. That means your absolute carb limit should be about 20g.

Well, ¼ cup of farro clocks in at a whopping 33g of carbs, which will dropkick you right out of ketosis.

What is Keto?

The Ketogenic Diet, or Keto, is a low carb, high fat diet which helps you lose weight by forcing the body into a state of ketosis. On the Keto diet, users force the body to shed pounds by feeding on fat broken down in the liver, rather than carbohydrates and glucose.

When we eat a lot of carbohydrates, the body produces both insulin and glucose. The body feeds on the glucose to produce energy and stores fat, rather than burning it. With keto, you can lose weight, improve your overall health, and enrich yourself in both body and mind. Learn more about the Keto Diet here.
