Yes, they’re two completely different lifestyles, but if your bread does not contain any gluten does that also mean that its safe for the keto diet?

The Short Answer

No, most gluten-free bread is not good for keto, but there are exceptions.

The Long Answer

Gluten-free and keto, they’re two lifestyle choices that you’ll hear quite a bit about nowadays. In fact, we’ve written at length about both!

But if something is gluten-free, does that also mean it’s right for keto?

Absolutely not.

Keto and gluten-free are completely different from one another. Those who are forced or choose to remove gluten from their diet are eliminating a protein that is often found in grains. The keto diet is all about putting your body in a state of ketosis, which is achieved by keeping your diet high in fat and low in carbohydrates.

Unfortunately, a lot of gluten-free bread still has a high carb count. Depending on the brand, you’re looking at 11 to 21g of carbs per slice! However, there are some exceptions to this rule.

Bulletproof bread or fathead dough are concepts which are gaining popularity now because they can fit in with both keto and gluten-free diets. These breads have no grains in them, and instead use almond flour, eggs, and cheese to create a dough which can then be baked.

What is Keto?

The Ketogenic Diet, or Keto, is a low carb, high fat diet which helps you lose weight by forcing the body into a state of ketosis. On the Keto diet, users force the body to shed pounds by feeding on fat broken down in the liver, rather than carbohydrates and glucose.

When we eat a lot of carbohydrates, the body produces both insulin and glucose. The body feeds on the glucose to produce energy and stores fat, rather than burning it. With keto, you can lose weight, improve your overall health, and enrich yourself in both body and mind. Learn more about the Keto Diet here.
