A lot of dairy products are accepted and encouraged for those on a Keto diet. But what about crème fraiche?
The Short Answer:
Yes, crème fraiche is allowed on a Keto diet
The Long Answer:
Dairy is a Keto dieter’s best friend.
Seriously, without cheese, my Keto journey would have been awfully short.
There are many dairy products that go well with Keto. Full fat milk, sour cream, and cheese are all some of my favorite Keto foods. But what about crème fraiche?
Some people think it’s just fancy sour cream, but that’s definitely not the case.
Crème Fraiche is a French product that was originally made from unpasteurized cream. In the modern age, with all dairy being pasteurized, crème fraiche is made by adding fermenting agents to cream.
So, why is it good for keto? It contains low amounts of carbohydrates and a high fat content. Cream, by its nature, is higher in fat than regular milk. That’s because cream is the butterfat that rises to the top of whole milk. It’s pretty much all fat.
Something to beware when adding crème fraiche to your Keto routine, however. Certain flavored varieties of this product contain higher than average carb counts and they can really throw off your macros. Stick with full fat crème fraiche and season it yourself with various spices. The end result is a much more keto friendly product.
What Is Keto?
The Ketogenic Diet, or Keto, is a low carb, high fat diet which helps you lose weight by forcing the body into a state of ketosis. On the Keto diet, users force the body to shed pounds by feeding on fat broken down in the liver, rather than carbohydrates and glucose.
When we eat a lot of carbohydrates, the body produces both insulin and glucose. The body feeds on the glucose to produce energy and stores fat, rather than burning it. With keto, you can lose weight, improve your overall health, and enrich yourself in both body and mind. Learn more about the Keto Diet here.
